Naples, Italy (Oct 1st)

Our day in Naples had us spending all of 3 secs actually IN the city of Naples. We heard from everyone we spoke to that the place had nothing spectacular to see. We instead booked 'Capri, Sorrento, and Pompei' through the excursion desk. Had to start our day at 7am. Ugh.

Got off our big ship and on to a ferry out to Capri. The whole island is pretty chi-chi with many high-end designers and 5th Ave type stores to encourage continuous impulse purchases by the rich and famous.

Don't get us wrong, the island is just beautiful. Happy that we had the chance to visit, but don't think any one of us feels a burning desire to come back any time soon. Although Maria may come back for the arancini and sfogliatelle she puchased at one of the bakeries.

4 cappuchinos.
1 beer.
15 minutes of ambience.
Priceless?
Nope - 25 euro.

Had a little scare while on the Isle of Capri. Maria took Cooper down to the water's edge and slipped on some algae growing on the concrete. They went down hard, but luckily no major injury. Very scary!

Sorrento was next on the agenda. What a great town! Next time, we will bypass Capri altogether and just spend time in Sorrento. Wonderful little shops, and we just wanted to continue to walk around the streets. We bought some spices and other foodstuff.

Pompei. So very interesting. No idea it was so big! The guide gave us a lot of information about the streets, businesses, homes, and lives lead by the people living in this town before Vesuvius erupted.
The bodies are the most famous, but there is also an enormous collection of vases, art, sculpture, and household items that have been successfully excavated.
Buonanotte Naples! (despite this look, he loved the ice cream)
