St. Vincent's

One of the biggest backroom dealings in recent memory has got to be the closing of St. Vincent's Hospital in the Village. Boards and special interests and real estate tycoons and corrupt politicians all their hands in this one - and it only took 24 days from decision to the closure of the hospital's doors forever. Now? The closest emergency room or trauma center is miles away. For an ambulance to come crosstown, and then back crosstown takes time that is not necessarily something that can be spared. The reason for the closure? It seems that the "powers that be" want to sell-out this crucial location to put up new condos in its stead. Condos.

A rally was sponsored by the Coalition for a New Village Hospital.

Amazing speakers. Yetta Kurland. Lt. Dan Choi. Michelle Clunie. Many many more. And our friend Jo spotted our friendly neighborhood interpreter. (with a weird expression on her face)
